AA - Artists Anonymous > inanga  > Art > Sacred Spaces
Sacred Spaces - i suppose all space on earth is sacred, although we seldom treat it as such. In this gallery i include some of my favourite things i have ever actioned on behalf of God.

i usually store this gallery in AA - Artists' Anonymous - a Smug Communities repository that I think is appropriate. i assume that is why artists use pen (painting) names. A man or woman's faith is their own business...

A lot of my work employs collage - it allows me to use modern media and ancient techniques of painting. It is, in essence, image making nonetheless. Paint, silver gelatin, pixels, cardboard, bytes - all form the canvas - the end result is image of a single moment in a succession of moments. One foot after the other...

For a good view of much of the subject matter in this gallery go to - and beyond -http://www.sacred-texts.com

Dedicated to 'Elli-oot the Boo-dhist', who passes through Jerome, Az, on occasions. Thank you for teaching me the meaning of the Noble Eight-fold Path. Elliott the Buddhist appears in 'Montezuma's Well' - part two of the 'North Star Road' trilogy.

inanga > Tat Tvam Asi

Tat tvam asi is Sanskrit for I am That.

I loved this picture when I painted it in a moment of surrender to the God of my humble understanding. When it was finished it was dedicated to Ken Wilber the American Yogi.

Ken Wilber writes amazingly. He has got It and probably has renounced It long ago. I had just read some of the inspiring story, Grace and Grit, of his final 3-D moments with his partner Treya Killam Wilber.

Ken teaches the value of the moment – the hey yeh yah ya yeh of an Enigma song on U-Tube, the gritty banter of an armchair curmudgeon and the sweet taste of sugar in coffee. These are the moments that you reach out, integrate into the universal harmonic and exclaim Tat tvam asi. That. A precious piece of greenstone adds itself to the piece of paper and the swirl of Phi slides into action. The volcano spews out the revised landscape, and gold leaf snowflakes reflect the light. The light of I am That as it is created before my very eyes.

I look at the photo of I am That and see fireballs with eyes and green snakes and a thunder ball, and lightning, and an eruption. The landscape is the moment of intensity, it is now and it explodes around me in natural orgasm.

Thank you Ken for inspiring this piece of paper, the paint, the brushes, the gold in the air, and thanks most of all for showing me the appreciation of the now. I can taste the now with the excitement of a doomed man dragged by chains and tumbrel to the gallows. All is good in the adoration of God in this moment, and no grief and anxiety can disturb the balance of that when I am That. In that moment one can apologise to God for the idiosyncratic nature of the human circumstance with the sweetest of Mea Culpa.

I scratch my head in search of some inkling of wisdom when I tap the keys of this laptop. My mind is a syncopated dance mix fed through my 3-D aural and visual mechanisms right into the Now. I complete the painting quickly and then look into the lower left hand corner with my magnifying glass and see a psychedelic sky over a Hawkes Bay landscape.

God has fired back ‘I am That, I am whatever you wish me to be’.

A couple of backpackers visited me in the Flats in 2007. One was Gerry the German mushroom king and he was studying the effects of phi-losybins on 3-D consciousness, and in particular the entheogenic effects of Amanita muscaria or fly agaric. We talked about DMT, the Mayan calendar, mushrooms, and Tlaloc. He liked the painting Tat tvam asi – it went back to his university den somewhere in Germany.

Oh, the landscape is in Tanzania - it is a place called Ol Doinyo Lengai.

inanga > Big Ideas - Coming to grips with Easter Island

I had originally envisaged to paint a 4 metre x 2.5 metre mural for the wall of my flat in Jville. What you see here is the start of that idea lying on the floor. As in many art endeavours it became impractical to live in a small bedsit with this grandiose idea, so the parts became parts of much smaller works. The picture on the left of the seven moai became Aotearoa's Birdman visits Easter Island, for example.

inanga > The Temptation of St Anthony

i haven't got a picture of 'The Way of the Rope' so i put its description under this - because the white thread of mountains through the center is part of the original (collaged here). Anyway...

'The Way of the Rope'

i was born in New Zealand in this round of 3-D and my noble eight-fold path of suffering sees me in NZ 3-D when this depiction of the rope was painted. It is the beautiful rolling foothills of the Southern Alps of Aotearoa. i lost myself in those innocent childish foothills long ago.

If you hang it as a portrait it indicates the rope and if you hang it landscape either way up you get the child-like foothills. It is an optical delusion, nonetheless.

The rope depicted is that of the ancient Egyptians. When they wanted to move a pharaoh’s soul to heaven (the next dimension, probably 5-D at that time, then the way of the rope would be prepared. When the sun struck the crystal at the top of the great pyramid then the flame characters were ignited spelling out the way of the rope (these characters are depicted in The Bible Secret. The Benben bird appeared and conducted the righteous souls of the deserving to the next dimension. Jesu Christos knew and studied these secrets and was thus able to enact his own ascension – with the full understanding and will of God his Father.

The Egyptians mismanaged the way of the rope, and it is only now that wise men and women are relearning the secrets of that path. It is essential to All of our Being.

A woman who gave care to my partner Ms P received this piece as a statement of our gratitude. She took it to England where we think she studies its significance and perhaps, she in time will learn the way of the rope.

inanga > Hen and Chicken, Hiengiene, New Caledonia

A poem I penned in New Caledonia. It is about the Gibson Bar in Noumea's exotic Latin Quarter. My mate Andy shuffled the lyrics and wrote music for it. He did a great job and someday I hope to feed it through my website.

GIBSON BAR

No Scottish hills here
Captain Cook was wrong
When he named it
   New Caledonia
Same as when he pulled up on
    a fateful Hawaian shore.

Sitting in the Quartier Latin
It seems
The French beat the English here
Why else would I be sipping beer
In sight of a patisserie

Strange blend of bronzed men
   and women
Of European descent
And black as coal faces
With the whitest of eyes
   Of another descent.

In the Gibson Bar
Strange Pacific Eurobeat
Echoes all around
From near and far
Hendrix is cracking coconuts
With the end
   of his guitar
ZZ Top in South Sea Paradise
Well removed from the bar
Reflections from colonial pasts
And uncertainty of futures
at the bottom of a glass.

Snowboarding in the tropics
On the big screen behind
Anomaly after anomaly
Where the blind lead the blind

Little part of universe
Smaller part of All,
South Sea Paradise
Left bank
Sans Tour de Eiffel
And 'loi' on the wall.

Rastas coming in
Soul years removed from Bob Marley
And the wisdom of Jah
It was Bob who once played guitar
In some far-off Jamaican
    Gibson Bar

[Ed note: this was written before i exchanged alcohol for God.]
