dpreview > inanga  > Nature > The Phi Swirl
Hi inanga here...

i saved a site on SmugMug for future use by arts alliance nz - one of the most staunch supporters of the arts in Aotearoa. So this exhibition is temporary until such time as I can introduce arts alliance to SmugMug and its myriad connections - such as the dpreview, travel, bluesfestival and european travelers community. i have yet to explore the huge potential of dgrin. Those familiar with it, please let me know about it.

The basis of all art - Phi in motion. Most of these are details of the Phi (1.6180339887) spiral from my paintings. I always mess up the numbers of Phi when i am saying or writing it but wiki fixes that. Try this for all you ever wanted to know about Phi http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_ratio. The best hardcopy read is Mario Livio's (2002), 'The Golden Ratio: The Story of Phi, the World's Most Astonishing Number'. NY. Broadway Books ISBN 0-7679-0815-5. i'll put in a feed for Phi to 17 billion places later. To see how it is applied in finance (not art) see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elliott_wave_principle

And if you have time, see the other galleries for originals. This gallery doesn't really lend itself to 'Map This'. It is better as a Slideshow - see top right of this gallery for 'Slideshow' or go to 'Style' up at left of choices and press 'Slideshow'. A small tip - play your favorite 'soft' music as you watch the center of your screen - approximately the center of many of the Phi spirals. It is therapeutic and dare i say meditational.

Welcome to the world-wide-web canvas. Anyone who P-logs on to this site becomes part of this on-line, real-time evolving painting. To get to bulk of galleries for 'Map This'. 'Geo Tours' and 'Slideshow' CLICK '> inanga >' at top left. I'm on Facebook - inangawiremu@gmail.com.

Welcome to Phi, the visible Hand of God

regards and hope all your remaining days in 3-D are good ones

Some wisdom from Our Master:

'Self-realized State: Unicity

In the Unicity of the Self-realized state, the enjoyer and the object of enjoyment, the observer and the observed have become merged in the mystic realization of the Unicity, as if, in the words of Janeshwar:

"Fragrance has become the nose in order to smell itself, sound has become the ear in order to hear itself."

All perception remains as pure mirrorization without any reactive interpretation: there is only seeing, hearing, tasting, etc., without the objective interference of a see-er, hear-er, taste-er, etc. The senses may run according to their nature towards objects which gratify them, but there is no experience separate from the experience, just as when the sight meets the mirror there is awareness that the image in the mirror is not different from the face. In other words, an ordinary person identifies himself with the object that is undergoing an experience (whether it is enjoyable or painful), but the Self-realized person becomes the experience.'
Intro panel to Phi - Swirling Motion

I never imagined, a few years back, that I would be able to organise my considerable body of work so easily, and then be able to display it to its best effect. It is possible now - for your own edification, try some of the SmugMug gallery styles as you surf. It is fun...

Going 3-D Swirling

3-D pic - dedicated to SmugMug - you are all geniuses (or is that genii?)

From 'Synthesis of Yoga' by Sri Aurobindo [A description of the preparation necessary for Transmigration of Souls - 'The Divine Work']

'In the Way of Knowledge we may arrive at a point where we can leap out of personality and universe, escape from all thought and will and works and all way of Nature and, absorbed and taken up into Eternity, plunge into the Transcendence; that, though not obligatory on the God-knower, may be the soul's decision, the term pursued by the self within us.

In the Way of Devotion we may reach through an intensity of adoration and joy union with the supreme All-Beloved and remain eternally in the ecstasy of his presence, absorbed in him alone, intimately in one world of bliss with him; that then may be our being's impulsion, its spiritual choice.

BUT in the Way of Works another prospect opens; for travelling on that path, we can enter into liberation and perfection by becoming of one LAW and power of nature with the Eternal; we are identified with him in our will and dynamic self as much as in our spiritual status; a divine way of works is the natural outcome of this union; a divine living in a spiritual freedom the body of self-expression.

In the Integral Yoga these three lines of approach give up their exclusions, meet and coalesce or spring out of each other.

Liberated from the mind's veil over the self, we live in the Transcendence, enter by the adoration of the heart into the oneness of a supreme love and bliss, and all our forces of being uplifted into the one Force, our will and works surrendered into the one Will and Power, assume the dynamic perfection of the Divine Nature."

Kundalini and Shaktipat

52 The principle deity of Siddha Yoga is the great Kundaline Shakti, who is also known as Chiti or Supreme Consciousness. She has assumed the form of the entire universe.

53 Kundalini has three specific locations: at the base of the spine, in the heart, and at the crown of the head. She is awakened at the base of the spine and is also activated in the heart, where She manifests as bliss.

54 The creation that we see around us is the visible form of the universe Kundalini. That conscious Kundalini energy is known as the world.

55 Kundalini is regarded as the highest deity. The great Shakti is supremely independent and has limitless power. She becomes the world and then sustains it. At the same time, She remains apart from it. Not only does She manifest in the form of the universe, but She also reabsorbs all manifested objects into Herself. This is the experience of Siddha Yoga.

56 Because the great Shakti Kundalini is a mighty power, She is free to perform any action. She brings into existence the entire creation, both seen and unseen. Siddha Yoga has complete understanding of this.

57 Through Her mere thought, the mighty pulsating power of Kundalini can bring into existence even objects which have never been seen. Siddha Yoga states that She could create a flower in the sky, make a barren woman give to a son, or manifest horns on a hare.

58 She places limitations on space, time, and objects; but She Herself, being all-pervasive and eternal, is not bound by them. She is supremely pure and untouched. For that reason, She is known as Siddhi Yogini.

59 Of her own free will, Shakti manifests in this world in the form of the knower, the known, and the process of knowing. She is all things both within and without, yet She exists apart from them all. That is why Siddha Yoga declares that She is of the nature of the Absolute.

60 When we speak of Maha Shakti, Parasatta Chiti, Matrika, Gauri, Lakshmi, Saraswati [4], and so on, we are actually referring to that Supreme Shakti Kundalini who is the primordial seed of the universe. Although in this reality this Shakti is only one, when She expands She overflows into innumerable currents. All the objects of the universe are Her forms. This is the perfect knowledge of the Siddhas.'

'83 In a human being, there are four bodies, one within the other: physical, subtle, causal and supracausal. [8] As the Shakti works in all four bodies, She gives rise to various amazing experiences. This is the knowledge of the Siddhas.

84 It is a philosophical premise that the microcosm is identical to the macrocosm. The great Shakti, the mother of the world, lives in the body as the microcosm. The entire universe exists in the seed of the heart, the inner Self.

85 In the heart, there is a sublime and miraculous center. When the work of the Kundalini begins there through the grace of a Siddha, a person can perceive distant objects and sounds. He [or She] acquires the knowledge of higher planes, of past lives, and of others' minds.

86 Initiation, or Kundalini awakening, gives a person complete knowledge. In the final stage of meditation, the awareness of 'So'ham' [9] and "I am perfect' arises spontaneously within. In happens because the awakened Shakti is the embodiment of perfect knowledge. This is the indisputable experience of the Siddhas.

87 A simple and powerful means of depeening meditation is to focus the mind on those great beings that are beyond attachment. Then meditation progresses very quickly. This is the remarkable effect of remembering the Siddhas.

88 There is no doubt that the sublime and divine Shakti dwells in every human being. Even if one cannot meditate deeply on one's own, by receiving Shakti from the Guru one will automatically experience all yogic 'kriyas'. This is the wisdom of the Siddhas.

89 The mighty Kundalini Shakti is the vital force. As fire, She gives heat; as the sun, She gives light; as rain, She brings showers; as wind She blows everywhere. She is the earth. She exists in the form of all material objects.

90 No words can describe Her. She is a woman; She is a man. She is everything in the world. She is that which exists and that which does not exist.'

8. The physical body is experienced in the waking state. The subtle body (which includes mind, senses, and other subtle instruments) is the vehicle for the dream state. The causal body is experienced in deep sleep as blissful nonawareness. The supracausal body is made of pure Consciousness; it is the body of transcendental experience.

9. Literally, "I am He [or She]" or 'I anm That."

Swirl Sunset

detail from 'Tiahuanaco on Lake Titikaka'

The black at the base of this reminded me of a poem by Ms P's daughter B who turns 12 on Boxing Day:

'What is black?

Black is dark,
Like the midnight sky.
Black is the darkness you see
When you are angry.

Black is the colour
Of the dark stern sea.

Black is the colour,
When your mind goes blank.

Black is the witches cat,
Prowling in the night.
Black is the colour
Where your monsters hide.
Black is the colour,
Of your shadow,
Not leaving your side.

Black is the colour,
Of a lion's eyes
Black is the opposite
Of the white
Of the wise

Can you imagine life
And in it
A lack
Of the colour black'.

detail from 'Kuri's Big OE'

Kuri's Big OE is the start of a critical examination I made of the Ngai Tahu exhibition in Te Papa. It was badly researched and full of inaccuracies. Somehow a kuri (actually a wooden baboon from Zimbabwe) found its way into the exhibition. 'Kuri' is Maori for 'dog'. They stuck poor ol' Kuri behind a glass prison, took his passport and impounded his Vee Dub (Volkswagen) and stored it on the roof of the museum. The farce doesn't end there - but the rest of the shockers are another story.

Dedicated to Dr Paul Brunton

'Do your best to mend matters, the best you can, then leave the results to destiny and the Overself. You can't do more anyway. You can modify your destiny, but certain events are unchangeable because the world is not yours but God's. You may not know at first what these events are, therefore you must act intelligently and intuitively: later you can find out and accept.

Whatever happens, the Overself is still there and will bring you through and out of your troubles. Whatever happens to your material affairs happens to your body, not the real YOU. The hardest part is when you have others dependent on you. Even then you must learn how to commend them to the kindly care of the Overself, and not try to carry all the burden on your own shoulders. If it can take care of you, it can take care of them, too.'

The refractive index of NZ nephrite (pounamu) is 1.6180339887 = phi) so it must be the phi-losopher's stone. Maybe yes, maybe no. Get some and play with it - it's magical. Promise. And my mum always told my sisters never to trust a man who says 'promise' to you.
