Scrolls - one thing I know about them is that they are long. They are usually painted one side only (as in 'Just Passing Through') but i got carried away and painted The 'i' Scroll both sides. How in the name of... are they going to frame that. Glass both sides and hanging from the ceiling by wires. i suppose the idea is that you walk around them either deosil or widdershins, depending on the hemisphere you are in - right or left, north or south?

The boxes are another story. 'Just passing Through' is an extended comment - only painted one side - on modern quantum reality. Sort of a level up from Hawking, Copenhagians, Bohr and Clauser. Jasper Memory's poem sums it all up - see it in this gallery.

The 'Wine Box' is a little more local - it is a five-sided and two-flapped statement on the process of my ongoing recovery from alcohol addiction. Because it is THE 'Wine Box' it deserved artistic treatment.

This gallery building is new to me - but even those who paint traditionally need to embrace the digital wizardry of 'dgrin' and 'SmugMug', and their mates - Picasa 3, Google, Yahoo and Mozilla Firefox.

The 'i' Scroll Rolled

It wasn't until i unraveled it that i learnt the eight-fold path of a Sufi.

'Kindness to the young;
Generosity to the poor;
Good counsel to friends;
Forbearance with enemies;
Indifference to fools [me included];
Respect to the learned; and
Faith in yourself.

The eighth - find that out for yourself - it's part of the journey of life.

This is a condensation of the Wisdom of Sheikh Abdullah Ansari, translated by the distinguished Sikh, the Sardar Sir Jagendra Singh.

And Leonardo da Vinci said:

"Although nature commences with reason and ends in experience, it is necessary for us to do the opposite, that is to commence with experience and from this to proceed to investigate the reason."

"As a well-spent day brings happy sleep, so a life well spent brings happy death."

"Anyone who in discussion relies upon authority uses, not his understanding, but rather his memory."

"A good painter is to paint two main things, men and the working of man's mind."

"He is a poor disciple who does not excel his master."

"As every divided kingdom falls, so every mind divided between many studies confounds and saps itself."

"Experience does not err. Only your judgements err by expecting from her what is not in her power."

"Every action needs to be prompted by a motive."

"Common Sense is that which judges the things given to it by other senses."

"Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgement will be surer. go some distance away because the work appears smaller and more of it can be taken in at a glance and a lack of harmony or proportion is more readily seen."

"I roamed the countryside searching for answers to things I did not understand. Why thunder lasts longer than that which causes it, and why immediately on its creation the lightning becomes visible to the eye while thunder requires time to travel. How the various circles of water form around the spot which has been struck by a stone and why a bird sustains itself in the air. These questions and other strange phenomena engaged my thought throughout my life."

"I teach you to preserve your health, so that you will succeed better in proportion as you avoid doctors."

"I will now reveal to men the origin of the first, or perhaps second cause of their existence. Lust is the cause of procreation. Appetite is the support of life. Fear or timidity is the prolongation of life and preservation of its instruments."

‘The people of your culture cling with fanatical tenacity to the specialness of man. They want desperately to perceive of a vast gulf between man and the rest of creation. This mythology of human superiority justifies their doing whatever they please with this world, just the way Hitler’s mythology of Aryan superiority justified his doing whatever he pleased with Europe. But in the end this mythology is not deeply satisfying. The Takers are a profoundly lonely people. The world for them is enemy territory, and they live in it like an army of occupation, alienated and isolated by their extraordinary specialness.’

‘That’s true. But what are you getting at?’

Instead of answering my question, Ishmael said,

‘Among the Leavers, crime, mental illness, suicide, and drug addiction are great rarities. How does Mother Culture account for this?’

‘I’d say it’s because… Mother Culture says it’s because the Leavers are just too primitive to have these things.’

‘In other words, crime, mental illness, suicide, and drug addiction are features of an advanced culture.’

‘That’s right. Nobody says it that way, of course, but that’s how it’s understood. These things are the price of advancement.’

‘There’s an almost opposite opinion that has wide currency in your culture for a century or so. An opposite opinion as to why these things are rare among the Leavers.’

I thought for a minute. ‘You mean the Noble Savage theory. I can’t say I know it in any detail.’

‘But you have an impression of it. That’s what’s current in your culture – not the theory in detail but an impression of it.’

‘True. It’s the idea that people living close to nature tend to be noble. It’s seeing all those sunsets that does it. You can’t watch a sunset and then go off and set fire to your neighbour’s tepee. Living close to nature is wonderful for your mental health.’

‘You understand that I’m not saying anything like this.’

‘Yes. But what are you saying?’

‘We’ve had a look at the story that the Takers have been enacting here for the last ten thousand years. The Leavers too are enacting a story. Not a story told but a story enacted.’

‘What do you mean by that?’

‘If you go among the various peoples of your culture – if you go to China and Japan and Russia and England and India – each people will give you a completely different account of themselves, but they are nonetheless all enacting a single basic story, which is the story of the Takers. The same is true of the Leavers. The Bushmen of Africa, the Alawa of Australia, the Kreen-Akrore of Brazil, and the Navajo of the United States would each give you a different account of themselves, but they too are all enacting one basic story, which is the story of the Leavers.’

‘I see what you’re getting at. It isn’t the tale you tell that counts, it’s the way you actually live.’

So you wondered what all that stuff in the Matrix trilogy was about. Sewing the seeds of how things may be perhaps - except that you don't need a telephone call to escape and Hugo Weaving is not going to transform into Mr Smiths. 'Free the mind' - you are halfway there just reading this paragraph. Have you looked at deoxy.org yet. They are our 4-D connections - all seasoned treasure hunters or they wouldn't have made it to 4-D yet - the Hopi FOURTH WORLD. They have no doubt they want to go to the FIFTH WORLD to be with at-one with God.

As i go on this Plog i will be adding ever more clues so that the 'Lost Dutchman's Mine on Treasure Island' is successful for us all. They call that 'allegory'.

So 'allegory' is the word for the day:

Art Net is a great voice for struggling artists like me - still on welfare - and hassled all the time.

If you navigated thus far in the Matrix you will be needing some Pearls of Wisdom to spur you on. Where would a poet go?

Crystal Magic = Crystal Cathedrals - The Mexican.

You know what i do whenever anyone says to me 'Never trust a Mexican' - turn and walk in the other direction. By now you have had enough 'tortillas'.

He suggested this feed:

www.crystalcathedral.org/

This explanation of Lakota Sioux crystal healing is dedicated to Dr Robert Schuller. i am a regular at 'Hour of Power'.

CRYSTAL HEALING

[ed: vernon the vauxhall has a flat battery - i have to pick up miss p from the station - back soon.]

Crystal healing with YOU as the healer.

If you are involved in crystal healing already then you have in your hands the crystal that works for you. This is an easy 101 here - just the method. i will place all i know about the actual properties of the crystals used - eg the ruby crystals that have recently been available from Merlin's Crystal Mines in India and Madagascar. Those familiar with UEN phi-glyphs, DNA light-life codes, pictographic languages of light and crystallographic megamatrices will have no problem with this - it is simple.

Crystals 101

1 Breath on your crystal to remove a 'short circuit' by possible ambient negative forces.

2 Initiate a mental connection, through your third-eye to the crystal. Then initiate a mental connection, through your third-eye, to the healing spirits (or God) working through you.

3 Then the healee places their hand of preference between the hands of the healer, yet doesn't touch these hands - important. The crystal is in the hand of preference of the healer and is pointing toward the palm of the hand of preference of the healee.

4 The healer rotates the crystal 'counter-clockwise' [in the northern hemisphere, 'clockwise' in southern] towards the palm of the hand of preference of the healee.

5 The subject is asked to feel the influencing energy from the crystal. When this is acknowledged, the healer rotates the crystal 'clockwise' [again in northern latitudes, and vice versa south of the equator]. The healee should then be asked to determine which position of the crystal conveys the energy that feels more compatible. This is the tuning process for adjusting to the specific needs of the healee.

6 At the point that feels most compatible, the crystal is positioned, not touching the hand, but in a position which allows the current from the crystal to be directed mentally into the affected area of the body.

The healer continues to allow the energy to channel through him/her [and note - not giving away his/her own energy] until he she 'feels' the energy level change, or until the healee feels it is enough - The Clown recommends 20 minutes.

Note: you may do this for yourself, pointing the crystal directly to the affected area or sending it through the hand which is NOT the hand of preference to the desired body location.

The Clown showed me some pencil sketches of all this and i'll post these later. Healing is about fun, and when you learn these techniques you should never have to pay anyone for these services. So get out there and heal away for free...

Oops, i almost forgot - two new clues to be posted in the 'Another Roadside Attraction' gallery soon. And for those keen to learn more about Aussie Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith) use this feed:

i think his best move was 'Proof' (with Russell Crowe, another Kiwi connection - his cousins who are amazing cricketers). You can read about this movie, a must for 'blind' photographers, found in the wiki article on Hugo Weaving.

'it' that is, is what it is'

Welcome to the first of you that have learnt how to navigate the Matrix Book (the Umm el-Kitab). Here you 'true treasure hunters' are beginning to learn what you actually need to get deep into the Superstitions.

There will be lots of dangers in there - you will suffer pestilence, plagues, fires, etc, etc. Don't log off - you got this far. This is a test of your resolve! This is only ONE plant i am talking about - there are millions of others...

SOMANETICS 101

i left you with the Bedouin making the 'bread of Light'. This stuff, miraculous as 'IT' is, is free (grow your own).

The Christian Gnostics of Abydos, Egypt, called rue 'Besa', after the dwarf god of transformation and life, called Bes. Bes was associated with the god of al-CHEM-y Ptah.

The Essenes, mentioned earlier, used the plant right up until the time of Christ. Our Blessed Jesu Christos was raised in the Essenic tradition. In the later diaspora of the Christian church the bush had symbolic use in the church, and holy water was sprinkled onto the faithful with branches of rue.

Both Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci saw its deeper use, and used it to open their visionary pathways. Da Vinci, in particular, in his writings openly admitted that it was the source of his genius.

It was also featured in al-CHEM-ical traditions as the 'rue of alchemy - a tincture of it mixed with potable gold and acacia gum appears in Samuel Hill Norton's 'Alchemical Key'.

The ancient Etruscans of Italy used rue, along with Phalardis arundinacea (canary reed grass, a source of DMT and 5-MeO-DMT), essential third-eye activators, for both medicine and visionary abilities. Go to this feed AFTER you have read this entire section. And this feed is theirs, not mine - i found understanding of many third-eye openers here. Before you CLICK please READ THE REST on Somanetics and Somagetics.

www.erowid.org/psychoactives/

The ancient Greeks associated it with Hermes and restoration. And Hermes carried his Hermetic staff. This was the symbol on the walls of Perganum, and has been used in folk medicine to ward off the evil eye, even to this day. The hermetic staff provides yogin with the perfect example of kundalini rising - from three and a half coils in the Muladhara (perineum) the ida and pingala wind around the sushumna (which also has a centralised silver coil), activating the chakra centres until Shakti and Shiva are united in the sahasrara. More on yoga later...

It's rue we are on about.

Recent research has been undertaken in the analysis of pinoline and harmine (a related beta-carboline with a 7-methoxy rather than 6-methoxy) and their effects on 3-D material examples of H. sapiens sapiens. This is where it get good. Why weren't we told about these treasures. And this journey into the Superstitions cannot go on without this knowledge.

i am not a CHEM-ist but i have a working knowledge of psychoactives and ethnobotanicals - i have had first-hand experience with these legal plants. Yes all of these plants grow under our very noses, and many examples appear in the Superstitions.

i am here faced with 21 pages hardcopy and no live feed to the source of the document. it was, i daresay, deactivated long ago. i will add notes to these as time permits.

i will only treat one in full then, in the fashion of my mate Gerry the Clown, i will paraphrase the others as time permits.

1 Pinoline for Parkinson's and Alzheimer's Disease

The progression of several neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease has recently been shown to involve free radical damage. It is therefore of great importance to find agents that will effectively protect brain tissue against oxidative damage. The purpose of this study suggest that both melatonin and pinoline are valuable as potential free radical scavengers in brain tissue.

Both pinoline and melatonin were found to inhibit lipid peroxidation in a dose-dependant manner.

Frederiksen, T; Pless, G: Anti-oxidative potential of melatonin and pinoline in lipid peroxidation of brain tissue: Master's thesis: I-52, App (1998).

2 Pinoline Cures Dermatosis is Anti-fungal and Anti-bacterial

The extract of Perganum harmala [diff spelllings everywhere] (Rutaceae) was used topically to treat certain dermatoses of inflammatory nature. Results were encouraging and proved the antibacterial, antifungal, antipruritic and probably antiprotozoal effects of the extract.

Perganum harmala: its use in certain dermatoses.

Registry Numbers: 304-21-2 (Harmaline) 442-51-3 (Harmine).

3 Radioprotective Effect of Gamma-harmine and its carboline Analogues

Gamma-Harmine (I), harmine (II) and harmaline (III) were isolated from Peganum harmala L. (Zygophylaceae).

Tests were conducted with mice to detect whether gamma-harmine (a new compound), harmine, harmol (IV) and harmalol (V) are effective radioprotective compounds against gamma-ray irradiation.

Intraperitoneal injection of the hydrochlorides of the four alkaloids 50-80 mg.kg-1 X 1 in NIH male mice 30-45 minutes before 8.6 - 9.7 Gy whole body 60Co irradiation significantly increased the survival effects (1.33 - 2.61) and 30-day survival rate in comparison with control mice.

The results indicate that gamma-harmine exhibited relatively good radioprotective effect. gamma-harmine is the first alkaloid isolated from a plant having protective effects against whole-body lethal irradiation in mice.

4 Harmala and Leukemia

This study was conducted to, one: establish a program to study by in vitro and/or in vivo techniques, the antineoplastic activity of natural plant products and two: to utilize these techniques techniques to study the extracts of two plants, Prunus armeniaca (PA) and Perganum harmala (PH).

Three in vitro procedures:

(a) The growth inhibition of murine P388 leukemia cells in culture;

(b) the assay of cytotoxicity utilizing Cr51 labeled P388 cells;

(c) the assay of P388 colony forming units (CFU) in soft agar were employed and compared with in vivo studies conducted conducted in CD2F1 mice implanted with P388 or L1210 leukemia cells.

The seeds of Perganum harmala were extracted into 70% ethanol and then either extracted into chloroform:

(Phase I) or ultracentrifuged and fractionated

(Phase II) into three fractions:

(a) crude

(b) less than 300,000 MW ('300M') and

(c) less than 100,000 MW ('100M')

When assayed for inhibition of P388 colony forming units (CFU) in soft agar, PH [Perganum harmala] Phase II '300M' showed a marked decrease in CFU with a greater than 98% reduction of CFU at a concentration of 5 ug/ml.

This method was more indicative of follow-up in vivo studies in that it measures both direct cytotoxicity and inhibition of replication. Phase I extracts of PH showed marked increases in lifespan (ILS) of CD2F1 mice bearing P388 tumors (ILS of 36% at a total dose of 300mg/kg) and L1210 tumors (ILS of 33% at a total dose of 300mg/kg). Testing of the fractionated Phase II extract of PH gave evidence to show that the active ingredient is less than 300,000 MW and greater than 100,000 MW.

[i note the Mexican used a lot of PH in his cooking.]

5 Pinoline at same Level as Melatonin in the Eye Retina

The presence of two 5-methoxyindoles, 6-MeO-THBC and melatonin was deomnstrated in human retinae using a highly specific gas chromatographic mass spectrometric method from eyes affected with various ocular diseases. Both compounds were found to occur in similar quantities. 6-MeO-THBC is a newly-identified endogenously-occurring retinal compound possibly acting as a neuromodulator.

Dr M. Leino: 6-Methoxy-tetrahydro-beta-carboline and melatonin in the human retina: Exp Eyes res: 38:3:325-30 (1984) [Ed: this has an important function in the second harmonic generation occurring in the crystal in the 'pineal third-eye' gland. More later...]

6 Beta-carbolines as Anti-oxidants

A series of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-beta-carbolines has been synthesized and evaluated for cerebral protecting effects against lipid peroxidation and potassium cyanide intoxication in mice. Most of the compounds synthesized had potent effects against lipid peroxidation. Among them, 1-(3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-2-propyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-beta-carboline (22) was found to have a combination of potent effects against both lipid peroxidation and potassium cyanide intoxication.

Kawashima Y; Horiguchi A; Taguchi Y; Karasawa Y; Araki H; Hatayama K: 'Synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-beta-carboline derivatives': Chem Pharm Bulletin (Tokyo): 43:5:783-7 (1995)

7 Pinoline as an Anti-Addictive

Melatonin's active metabolite pinoline is oneirogenic. Not only have such beta-carbolines been shown to have, via the NMDA (N-methyl D-aspartate) glutamate receptor, an anti-addictive effect. [Ed: Important for an alcoholic like me - more later.] It is indicated as an anti-opiate and anti-stimulant (eg cocaine). Note here that the additional rapid-eye movement (REM) sleep for people who are REM-deprived may bring about a 25% increase in serotonin uptake. This additional REM sleep is important for diurnal functioning, and often its lack it is seen as an affliction of drunks and addicts. [More on serotonin later.]

8 Effect of Perganum harmala extract on Root Tips of Allium cepa

Treatment with Perganum harmala extract remarkably increased the mitotic index in Allium cepa root tips with increasing treatment duration at all exposure times used and with almost all concentrations.

The extract caused a relatively high increase in the mitotic index after a long period of treatment with some low concentrations.

Dr SM Abderrahman, Department of Biological Sciences, The Hashemite University, Zarqa, Jordan. Cytobios, 1997; 90 (362-363): 171-4

9 Observations on the Treatment of Natural Haemosporidia Infections by Total Alkaloid of Perganum harmala L. in Cattle

Eighty-two cattle naturally infected with haemosoridians were treated with total alkaloid hydrochoride of Peganum harmale L. [sic] (0.5 mg/kg/day).

Fifty-eight cases with Theileria sergenti showed a cure rate of 86%; thirteen cases with Theileria annulata showed a cure rate of 85%; eight cattle infected with Babesia bigemina showed a cure rate of 88% and three cases of Anaplasma marginale were completely cured.

The results suggested that the curative effect of total alkaloid of P. harmale was better than that of diminazene aceturate and produced minimal side effects. The alkaloid could also be administered to pregnant animals. It was concluded that the total alkaloid of P.harmale showed a marked effect as a treatment for haemosporidian infections in cattle.

For more on these haemosporidians consult the Genome Project: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?db=genomeprj&cmd=Retrieve&dopt=Overview&list_uids=9543

10 Effect of Total Alkaloid of Perganum Harmala L. in the Treatment of Experimental Haemosporidian Infections in Cattle

Cattle experimentally infected with Babesia bigemina or Theileria sergenti or mixed infestations of the two parasites were treated with total alkaloid of Peganum harmala L.

The results showed that treatment was effective against B. bigemina infection, had a marked effect on the course of the infection with T. sergenti and some effect on the course of the mixed infection.

And we continue, those hardy souls looking for a way out of life's mess, to examine the remarkable properties of Sacred Syrian rue or SOMA. Heaps of interesting stuff in store for those who want to save a few bucks on their medical bills. And if you got here by way of the Superstitions Treasure hunt then you will probably end up finding gold and more. Gold mixed with other things is sometimes nicer. Best conductor known to man though is gold... and if your third-eye is activated when you get into the Superstitions you are going to be conducted towards the golden treasure. It is there for the taking, but there is RISK.

11 Antimicrobial Agents from Higher Plants. Antimicrobial Agents from Perganum harmala seeds.

Anti-microbial properties were also demonstrated in the paper: 'Antimicrobial Agents from Higher Plants. Because Ananda included an aside here i will do so also:

Let's call it S & S 202:12-A just to be preposterous -

S & S 202: 12-A

The al-CHEM-ical tradition asserted that rue was a neutralizer of snake poison and this is confirmed by the anti-toxicological effects described in some of the learned sources quoted. Rue's beta-carbolines demonstate a neutralization effect against poison - a must in the Superstitions where, if you are not on good terms with them, rattlers can be a problem. Treasure hunters inevitably end up face to face with rattlesnakes - it goes with the territory. It was upheld for a long time, in the al-CHEM-ical traditions, that Christ was given Gal (snake poison), and this is also mentioned in the Nag Hammadi Gnostic Gospels, found in Egypt. It was also understood that the vinegar he received before 'giving up his Spirit' was the Vinegar of the Four Thieves, famous in al-CHEM-y, and named after the Blessed Christ - the central ingredient of this is Perganum harmala.

Rue was also the major treatment and protection against the plague. Anti-plague and anti-venom all in one. In Greek the word for Christ's body is 'soma' and the eucharist is partially based on 'eat my body'. In early Gnostic art there are many depictions of the Apostles casting demons from people after they have been given an elixir. It is not surprising that in order to vomit out the 'demons' (the illnesses they suffer) that increased dosages of Perganum harmala in natural form would be prescribed. [Ed: Ananda adds that rue is still used in this fashion in the Islamic tradition - i do not know that for sure.]

13 Four Flavonoid Glycosides from Perganum harmala

The aerial parts of Perganum harmala yielded four new flavonoids and the glycoflavone 2''''-O-rhamnosyl-2''-O-glucosylcytisoside.

The Egyptian had to translate this for us from Arabic -

Sharaf M, el-Ansari MA, Matlin SA, Saleh NA, National Research Centre, Cairo, Egypt. PMID: 9014375, UI: 97166655

Harmaline and pinoline instigate all of the above, both flavinoid glycosides and the glycoflavone. If you have any elementary knowledge of psychopharmocology you may find this interesting.

Why?

202:13:A

Just about every drug you have been prescribed for a mental illness may NOT work. No don't throw them out yet, they still have to go and investigate this stuff further and you may need to stay leveled on your current dosage.

So - rue has the makings of the perfect anti-depressant, without the dangerous side effects of Prozac and other mood-inhibitors such as serotonin-based drugs. Hence, healthy pineal gland activity, by practise of Alpha-wave entrainment, at 7.83 Hz, instigated by superlearning techniques, Sylvia Mind Method, Mental Photography, Einstein-focusing Technique and its expanded daughter field image streaming, along with Meditation and Taoist martial arts such as Tai Chi and Chi Kung, and coherent emotion and breath patterns, aid in pineal gland pinoline turnover.

'Meditation' is simply an Alpha brain-wave entrainment technique which synchronizes the two brain hemispheres into 7.83 Hz, the frequency at which DNA replicates. Just by closing your eyes you stop melatonin leakage to the body and it thus saturates the neo-cortex, hence an increased production of melatonin and pinoline. Note carefully that flow is not stopped to the body, but it is increased to the two now-synched hemispheres.

This gives an extra impetus to Meditation, several times a day, as an essential health exercise. It's an energizer, taken with your daily coffee, and it makes you actually enjoy what you are doing during the day. Me - i am enjoying doing this - Plogging.

The extra pinoline and other beta-carboline levels that result, aid the body cells to replicate, and micro-organisms, parasites, fungoids, and bacteria (and other harmful creepy crawlies) to be neutralized.

Pinoline and melatonin give beneficial anti-oxidant properties to the body, and are the most useful anti-oxidants the body produces. So you are getting a rest break, a workout, an integration session, an energizer, body sculpture and a vitamin break. Most vitamins, like C, A and E, act as anti-oxidants.

Furthermore, it is an anti-depressant, increasing serotonin (5-HT) turnover, and recycling other essential neurotransmitters. It is the 100% clean green no contraindications and British Pharmaecopeia in the brain and body, recycling all of the essential neurotransmitter hormones.

But as the Mexican said: 'i don't need that stuff, i already enjoy making tortillas'.

14 Binding of Pinoline on the 5-hydroxy-tryptamine Transporter: Competitive Interaction with [3H] Citalopram

Pinoline (6-MeO-THBC) is a naturally occurring compound in the mammalian body which inhibits 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) uptake and exerts antidepressant-like behavioural effects in rats (including the President of the ACNZ for Life Mr Rat).

'Stairway to Hell
LONDON -- Scientists who blasted drugged mice with loud dance music have received an official reprimand.

Seven mice died when they were forced to listen to The Prodigy after being given a strong form of amphetamine, and others suffered brain damage.

Four mice made to listen to a Bach piece of a similar tempo to The Prodigy song also died.

Britain's Home Office said it had taken 'infringement action' against the Cambridge University team.

But team leader Dr Jenny Morton said the study, part of a wider one looking at the affect of amphetamine on a brain area that degenerates in Huntingdon's disease, was fully justified and conducted responsibly.

The researchers said the sound caused the mice to suffer more drug-induced brain damage than normal. -- PA.

This study investigates the effects of pinoline on [3H] citalopram binding to the 5-HT transporter on president Rat's brain. The experiments revealed that pinoline inhibits [3H] citalopram binding with IC50 1255 +/- 167 nM and Ki 572 +/- 76 nM [explanation later if you need it...]; Hill coefficient for inhibition was close to 1. In saturation experiments, pinoline co-incubated with [3H] citalopram, increased dose-dependently the Kd value but had no effect on the Bmax value of [3H] citalopram binding.

Micromolar concentrations of pinoline did not have influence on the dissociation rate of specifically bound [3H] citalopram.

Binding parameters of [3H] citalopram did not differ significantly in cerebral cortex and hippocampus of rats treated for 10 days with pinoline or vehicle. These results indicate that pinoline did not have any modulative influence on the activity on the activity of the 5-HT transporter and it interacts competitively with citalopram on the substrate recognition site of the 5-HT transporter.

Pinoline and harmine as well as other beta-carbolines inhibit the mono-amino-oxidase (MAO) enzyme. In a process called oxidative deamination, MAO converts as much as 80 percent of the body's serotonin into a physiologically inactive metabolite. As serotonin binds to the enzyme's active sites MAO removes the amine function and renders the molecule harmless and ineffective.

A small oral dose of 22-52 milligrams, will temporarily prevent physiologically active amines, like sertonin, from binding to the active site of the MAO [mono-amino-ozidase] molecule and undergoing deamination. This continues for three to six hours, where the harmala alkaloids interfere with the function of MAO before their action is reversed and MAO actively restored.

Hence, inhibiting MAO softly means that there is a much larger turnover of serotonin which renders a major anti-depressant effect, as St. Johns Wort has shown on winter depression studies. Underlying this is another question. It is not just the depression caused by light (waking hours) but the depression caused by the lack of darkness (as studies conducted at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have probably already revealed) because pinoline production is produced in sufficient quantities only in conditions of darkness. Lack of darkness (eg sleep) = depression.

What the above and now following studies are showing is that lack of pinoline disturbs 'normal functioning in daily life'. Always trust the Mexican, the Clown and the Egyptian - the Superstitions is no place to be depressed. If you are looking for treasure you should be happy! But never trust a Fool!

[Ed note: more on St John's Wort later, banned by the FDA in the USA, and yet used to treat over 70% of the cases of manic depression in Germany. It grows freely in the garden.]

15 Major Pharmacological Effects of 6-MeO-THBC, a Drug Elevating the Tissue 5-Hydroxy-tryptamine Level

Major pharmacological effects of 6-MeO-THBC are described. It seemed to have a weak effect of its own on 5-HT receptors.

It is concluded that most of the effects, like the increase in rectal temperature after peripheral administration and decrease and then increase after introhypothalamic application as well as the antagonism of the group toxicity of amphetamine without effect on norepinephrine toxicity or barbituate sleeping time, can result from the increase of tissue 5-HT-concentration and/or inhibition of 5-HT-uptake. S & S 202 15-A [Ananda again, but it is sound...]

Pinoline and harmine, as well as other beta-carbolines inhibit the mono-amino-oxidaze enzyme. In a process called oxidative deamination, MAO converts as much as 80% of the body's serotonin into a physiologically inactive metabolite [almost next to useless!]. As serotonin binds to the enzyme's active sites MAO removes the amine function and renders the molecule harmless and ineffective.

A small oral dose of 22-52 milligrams will temporarily prevent physiologically active amines, like serotonin, from binding to the active site of the MAO molecule and undergoing deamination. This continues for three to six hours, where the harmala alkaloids interfere with the function of MAO before their action is reversed and MAO activity restored.

This 'softer' inhibition of MAO means there is a much larger production of serotonin and this provides a major anti-depressant effect (as exhibited by Hypericum perforatum (St Johns Wort) in winter depression studies. The salient factor here is depression is not only caused by the light, but by the lack of darkness. Pinoline plays a great part in depression/no depression, and it is only produced in sufficient quantities in darkness (close your eyes and the process begins in earnest).

These studies herein indicate that a lack of pinoline disturbs our circadian rhythms and brings on depression. It will be one of the most important NEUROTRANSMITTERS of the future.

16 Possible Endocrine Role of the Pineal Gland for 6-MeO-THBC, a Putative Endogenous Neuromodulator of the 3H: Imipramine Recognition Site.

[Ed note: OK, OK - treasure hunters you don't have to remember all this. i am just stressing that 'you will rue the day you forget your rue'. Just make sure it is in your day pack. The Fool and the Clown.]

The association of the pineal gland with circadian rhythms, and the growing evidence for a disruption or phase alteration of the circadian rhythms in depression make it TEMPTING to speculate the at 6-MeO-THBC could play an important role in the pathophysiology of depression.

One centrally significant factor to pinoline is that it boosts the immune system by at least 2.6 fold, as animal studies have demonstrated. However, this was with a high dosage, some 800-900mg, depending on one's weight, and hence some 5-6 teaspoons of SOMA. Please read all cautions on HIGH DOSAGES - be aware the intense effects can result for four hours.

[Understand that this is a natural plant, and if you ingest it you cannot be sure of the exact measurement of dosages. Having said that i have never had ill effects - Ed]

17 6-MeO-THBC (Pinoline): Effects on Plasma Renin Activity and Aldosterone, TSH, LH and Beta-endorphin levels in the President for Life of the ACNZ Mr Rat (and other Rats)

Plasma renin activity and the plasma concentrations of aldosterone, TSH, LH and beta-endorphin were radioimmunologically determined in rats after ip administration of 15mg/kg of 6-MeO-THBC, pinoline), a compound found to occur normally in mammalian and avian pineal glands.

A 2.6-fold increase of plasma aldosterone concentration was found and it was preceded by an increase of plasma renin activity. An increase was also found in beta-endorphin/beta-lipotrophin concentration. The effects of 6-MeO-THBC on plasma beta-endorphin/beta-lipotrophin levels may be mediated by the dopaminergic or 5-HT neurones.

18 Pinoline, a Beta-carboline Derivative in the Serum and Cerebrospinal Fluid of Patients with Schizophrenia

Baseline levels of pinoline, 6-methoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-beta-carbolines (6-MeO-THBC) in the serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) were determined with GLC-mass spectrometry in 13 unmedicated schizophrenic patients and 18 non-psychiatric controls.

A detectable concentration of 6-MeO-THBC was always present, but no differences were found between the schizophrenic and control groups.

The serum and the CSF levels of 6-MeO-THBC were not significantly related to such variables as sex, age, subtype of schizophrenia, the quality and/or intensity of the psychopathological symptoms, or the duration of the illness. The role of the indoleamines in the aetiopathogenesis of schizophrenia is discussed.

19 Identification and Quantification of 1,2,3,4-THBC, 2-methyl-1,2,3,4-THBC and 6-MeO-1,2,3,4-THBC as In Vivo Constituents of the President of the ACNZ for Life Mr Rat's Brain and Adrenal Gland.

Our Mr Rat is seen best in his gold and pounamu jocks in 'Whitebait and the Rat Visit Easter Island' in one of the hog galleries.

The identification and quantification of three 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-beta-carbolines as normal constituents of rat brain and adrenal gland, using combined gas chromatographic/mass spectrometric techniques, are reported.

Qualitative analyses of these tissues led to the identification of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-beta-carboline (THBC), 2-methyl-THBC (2-MTHBC) and 6-MeO-THBC, as determined by observed peak retention times, mass fragments, and ion mass ratios.

Quantitative analyses, using deuterated internal standards, gave the following results: THBC (ng/g wet wt) in brain = 7.5 +/- 4.86, adrenal = 500.3 +/- 163.
6-MeO-THBC (ng/g wet wt) in brain = 35.6 +/- 16.6, adrenal = 113.7 +/- 300. [i have to verify these results - Ed]

Mechanisms for the formation of these beta-carbolines as well as their possible function in vivo are discussed.

It seemed to me that I was high up in space. Far below I saw the globe of the earth, bathed in a glorious blue light. I saw the deep blue sea and the continents… My field of vision did not include the whole earth, but its global shape was plainly distinguishable and its outlines shone with a silvery gleam through that wonderful blue light… Later I discovered how high in space one would have to be to have so extensive a view – approximately a thousand miles! The sight of the earth from this height was the most glorious thing I had ever seen.

5 And I saw the chambers of the sun and moon, whence they proceed and wither they come again, and their glorious return, and how one is superior to the other, and their stately orbit, and how they do not leave their orbit, and they add nothing to their orbit and they take nothing from it, and they keep faith with each other, in accordance with the oath by which they are bound together.

Ala'uddin Attar

'It is more right and worthy to dwell beside God than to dwell besides God's creatures.'

'How long will you worship at the tombs of Holy Men?

Busy yourself with the 'works' of holy men, and you are saved!'

[Excuse this transliteration - i will provide script later.]

(tu ta kay gur-i mardan-ra parasti bi-gird-i kari mardan gard u rasti)

From the Blessed Tongue of Ala'uddin Attar.

For those of you that are keen on entering the labyrinthine mind of Gerry the German Mushroom King (aka the Clown) i apologize for my transliteration herein.

According to wiki, Godel's ontological proof is a formalization of St Anselm's ontological argument for God's existence by the mathematician Kurt Godel.

Now the Clown is a Lutheran by calling, as is Mr Kurt Godel. There must be some extra special tree magic in that version of the Holy Bible of the Lutheran faith if the Clown, the consummate analyzer of all ontological proofs, was remotely interested in it.

Wouldn't it be nice if, in the United States around about today, John Key, the Prime Minister of Aotearoa met with President Barack Obama, and also with Helen Clark, former Prime Minister and now No 2 at the UN, to discuss the ontological basis of Godel's Proof.

Mr President:

'Does God exist?'

'Unusual question Mr Key'.

'Your thoughts Ms Clark...'

'Definitely, I saw him at the Kumara Races when i went there with Rick Barker from Dunollie'.

St Anselm's argument is rock solid, satisfying all the precepts of all faiths worldwide.

'God, by definition, is that than which a greater cannot be thought. God exists in the understanding. If God exists in the understanding, we could imagine Him/Her [ed: by Jung's 'mysterious conjunction'] to be greater by existing in reality. Therefore, God must exist'.

More on St Anselm (and Gottfried Leibniz) later, a bit more on Kurt Godel [apologies to German speakers for no '' over Godel's 'o' - i am still coming to grips with the on-line editor]:

Before, i get into modal logic, the distinguisher between 'necessary' truths and 'contingent' truths, how did Kurt Godel's faith and upbringing inspire him to his mathematical proof of the existence of God. [ed: music selection in progress - looks like its 'The Little River Band' and John Farnham singing 'Down on the Border'.]

i haven't forgotten about this; i have been busy elsewhere. it is important...
